It happened again. Yesterday, I was helping my parents pick chili peppers (고추s) from their vegetable garden and came across a branch that looked like a string of Christmas lights. I held it up thinking it was cool, but my mom just grinned and said “Did you know that in Korea, they put up 고추s and coals around the house when a boy is born?” >.<
